Can Dynamics AX beats SAP ?

Well some people say YES.

Reason Being :

I am sure the title of this post could cause all kinds of backlashings. People could say that I am very basis, because I work and implement Dynamics AX. The reality though, of the title, is still there. Dynamics AX beats SAP. What I want to address is this post, is the reason's I think why!

Reason number one: Flexibility

This first reason is most likely the top reason why Dynamics AX beats SAP hands down. SAP is a very cumbersome monster, and not very flexible, when it comes to taking SAP and changing it, modifying it, etc. On the other hand you can change anything you need to in Dynamics AX. This may scare some people, but to the majority, businesses see this as what is it. This is the key for the software you purchase, to grow as your business grows. Going with a ERP package like SAP, you have to adhere to SAP's thoughts about your business, how they think is best your business runs. Dynamics AX, you are in control, and granted best business practices should be sought after, but those best can be applied to your custom needs. So the flexibility of Dynamics AX beats out the in-flexibility of SAP hands down.

Reason number two: Product Stack

The second reason, that I think, Dynamics AX beats out SAP is the product stack. Dynamics AX is owned and developed by Microsoft. Your servers, your workstations, your office products, your web sites, your custom applications, mostly all of them are Microsoft Products. The database, SQL Server, is a Microsoft product. That should be enough said, but to continue, the product stack is very important when talking about what ERP system you are going to choose for a long term investment. Currently Dynamics AX 4.01 is highly integrated with the different product lines of Microsoft, and with the release of Vista, DotNet 3.0, Commerce Server 2007, SharePoint Server 2007, Exchange 2007, Office 2007, all these product lines will become even more tightly integrated, seamless for some, into the Dynamics AX product. This means that you will be able to work from SharePoint, Excel Services, and create a Spreadsheet, that can work directly with Dynamics AX ERP data, like Human Resources, etc. And it will all be centrally managed in a decentralized controlled fashion by the information worker. Now let me back up, and not go to far into the roadmap, but, to say the least Dynamics AX is part of the product stack fromMicrosoft, which runs your network, and your workstations, SAP is not.

Reason number three: Microsoft

This reason, by far, is the most hated and loved at the same time. Microsoft is top, and being at the top, means that everyone loves and hates you at the same time. Still the fact remains, Microsoft is a giant, with a great vision for the future for information workers. They actually spent the time and money, and they get it. To refer back to the road map, the future of Dynamics AX and the Microsoft Product line is wonderful, and truly exciting. They understand what SOA really means, and the benefits from it. There is no true cost saving in the buzz word called SOA, the true benefit is a long term investment in flexibility. (now what was the first reason Dynamics AX beats SAP? was it flexibility?) I have seen SAP roadmap for their SOA completion, and they are barely releasing JBOWS, or "Just a bunch of web services" that offer us the same inflexible business logic. True SOA has not been reached yet, as we are just in the third wave of it. True SOA will come of age around 2010-2013 and that is the exact road map timeline for future releases, when Dynamics AX, Dynamics in general, and the entire Microsoft product suite will offer true SOA benefits, because it will truly be SOA, and truly be a change in the way information workers think about their Excel spreadsheet, Access databases, and Dynamics AX data. A seamless UI, through SharePoint, that allows controlled access, in a decentralized way. So the third reason, Dynamics AX true future of flexibility (and current flexibility) beats SAP's JBOWS, hands down.

Well I could continue on, but for now I will stop at what I have already said. I suggest that if you don't believe me, look at it for yourself, and ask if Dynamics AX does not beat SAP in what I have said. Then ask yourself where SAP beats Dynamics AX? (Empty thoughts I know!) I am sure that this post could make a lot of SAP people mad, but this is business, and that what Dynamics AX is...your business. Is it not worth truely understanding?Till next time.

There are probably one or two special characters that you use regularly (for example, ® and ©). It can be a real time-waster to open your Character Map every time you want to insert one of these symbols. So don't! Open the Character Map by clicking Start, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Accessories. Click System Tools, and then click Character Map. Click the © symbol. Notice that the bottom-right corner of the Character Map shows the keyboard shortcut used to insert the special character. Write it down for later use. When you want to insert that character, here's the trick: Position the cursor where you want to insert the special character, then with NUM LOCK key on, hold down the ALT key and use the number pad keys to type the character value.

20 Things an Average Person Doesn’t Know About WinXP

1. It boasts how long it can stay up. Go to the Command Prompt in the Accessories menu from the All Programs start button option, and then type ’systeminfo’. The computer will produce a lot of useful info, including the uptime. If you want to keep these, type ’systeminfo > info.txt’. This creates a file called info.txt you can look at later with Notepad. (Professional Edition only).

2. You can delete files immediately, without having them move to the Recycle Bin first. Go to the Start menu, select Run… and type ‘gpedit.msc’; then select User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Windows Explorer and find the Do not move deleted files to the Recycle Bin setting. Set it. Poking around in gpedit will reveal a great many interface and system options, but take care — some may stop your computer behaving as you wish. (Professional Edition only).

3. You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click, and enter ‘rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation’ in the location field. Give the shortcut a name you like. That’s it — just double click on it and your computer will be locked. And if that’s not easy enough, Windows key + L will do the same.

4. XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can make it show everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word ‘hide’ and remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and there will be the software and you can now uninstall it.

5. For those skilled in the art of DOS batch files, XP has a number of interesting new commands. These include ‘eventcreate’ and ‘eventtriggers’ for creating and watching system events, ‘typeperf’ for monitoring performance of various subsystems, and ’schtasks’ for handling scheduled tasks. As usual, typing the command name followed by /? will give a list of options.

6. XP has IP version 6 support — the next generation of IP. Unfortunately this is more than your ISP has, so you can only experiment with this on your LAN. Type ‘ipv6 install’ into Run… (it’s OK, it won’t ruin your existing network setup) and then ‘ipv6 /?’ at the command line to find out more. If you don’t know what IPv6 is, don’t worry.

7. You can at last get rid of tasks on the computer from the command line by using ‘taskkill /pid’ and the task number, or just ‘tskill’ and the process number. Find that out by typing ‘tasklist’, which will also tell you a lot about what’s going on in your system.

8. XP will treat Zip files like folders, which is nice if you’ve got a fast machine. On slower machines, you can make XP leave zip files alone by typing ‘regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll’ at the command line. If you change your mind later, you can change things back by typing ‘regsvr32 zipfldr.dll’.

9. XP has ClearType — Microsoft’s anti-aliasing font display technology — but doesn’t have it enabled by default. It’s well worth trying, especially if you were there for DOS and all those years of staring at a screen have given you the eyes of an astigmatic bat. To enable ClearType, right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Effects, select ClearType from the second drop-down menu and enable the selection. Expect best results on laptop displays. If you want to use ClearType on the Welcome login screen as well, set the registry entry HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop/FontSmoothingType to 2.

10. You can use Remote Assistance to help a friend who’s using network address translation (NAT) on a home network, but not automatically. Get your pal to email you a Remote Assistance invitation and edit the file. Under the RCTICKET attribute will be a NAT IP address, like 192.168.1.10. Replace this with your friend’s real IP address — they can find this out by going to www.whatismyip.com — and get them to make sure that they’ve got port 3389 open on their firewall and forwarded to the errant computer.

11. You can run a program as a different user without logging out and back in again. Right click the icon, select Run As… and enter the user name and password you want to use. This only applies for that run. The trick is particularly useful if you need to have administrative permissions to install a program, which many require. Note that you can have some fun by running programs multiple times on the same system as different users, but this can have unforeseen effects.

12. Windows XP can be very insistent about you checking for auto updates, registering a Passport, using Windows Messenger and so on. After a while, the nagging goes away, but if you feel you might go insane before that point, run Regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/Advanced and create a DWORD value called EnableBalloonTips with a value of 0.

13. You can start up without needing to enter a user name or password. Select Run… from the start menu and type ‘control userpasswords2′, which will open the user accounts application. On the Users tab, clear the box for Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer, and click on OK. An Automatically Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name and password for the account you want to use.

14. Internet Explorer 6 will automatically delete temporary files, but only if you tell it to. Start the browser, select Tools / Internet Options… and Advanced, go down to the Security area and check the box to Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed.

15. XP comes with a free Network Activity Light, just in case you can’t see the LEDs twinkle on your network card. Right click on My Network Places on the desktop, then select Properties. Right click on the description for your LAN or dial-up connection, select Properties, then check the Show icon in notification area when connected box. You’ll now see a tiny network icon on the right of your task bar that glimmers nicely during network traffic.

16. The Start Menu can be leisurely when it decides to appear, but you can speed things along by changing the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/MenuShowDelay from the default 400 to something a little snappier. Like 0.

17. You can rename loads of files at once in Windows Explorer. Highlight a set of files in a window, then right click on one and rename it. All the other files will be renamed to that name, with individual numbers in brackets to distinguish them. Also, in a folder you can arrange icons in alphabetised groups by View, Arrange Icon By… Show In Groups.

18. Windows Media Player will display the cover art for albums as it plays the tracks — if it found the picture on the Internet when you copied the tracks from the CD. If it didn’t, or if you have lots of pre-WMP music files, you can put your own copy of the cover art in the same directory as the tracks. Just call it folder.jpg and Windows Media Player will pick it up and display it.

19. Windows key + Break brings up the System Properties dialogue box; Windows key + D brings up the desktop; Windows key + Tab moves through the taskbar buttons.

20. Windows XP secretly KNOWS that the average user has no idea what they are doing. Therefore, it doesn’t let you do really stupid things like deleting the windows directory (at least not without spending several hours convincing it that you REALLY want to do this).

Outlook: How to Recall a Sent Message

Have you ever clicked send on a message and then remembered that you forgot to attach that important file, or realized you put the wrong time down for a meeting? Outlook allows you the option of recalling a sent message. Here's how:

1. Go to the Sent Items folder.
2. Find the message you want recalled and double-click it.
3. Go to the Actions menu and select Recall This Message.
4. To recall the message:
Select Delete unread copies of this message.
(Note: the recipient needs to have Outlook opened for the message to be deleted)
To replace the message:
Select Delete unread copies and replace with a new message, click OK, and type your new message.
To be notified about the success of the recall or replacement:
Check the Tell me if recall succeeds or fails for each recipient check box.
5. Click OK.

Have you been trying to figure out how you can make certain special characters with your computer keyboard? You know, like a cent sign or maybe a a registered trademark sign (the R with a circle around it). Both of those and more have always been on my list of "How do you do that"

Well, I have finally found the solutions and I am so excited to share these with you! Let's do the cent sign first. If you need to add the cent sign into any document or project you're working on, simply hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and type in the numbers 0162. This is what you'll get: ¢ Cool, huh?! Look below for even more characters you can try:

® = Alt + 0174

™ = Alt + 0153

¥ = Alt + 0165

Those are just a few you can do with the Alt key and a number code. Keep in mind that when you're doing this, you must use the number pad on the right hand side of your keyboard. It won't work if you use the numbers located above the letters.

Change Your MAC Address

Method 1:This is depending on the type of Network Interface Card (NIC) you have. If you have a card that doesn’t support Clone MAC address, then you have to go to second method.

a) Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel and double click on Network and Dial-up Connections.

b) Right click on the NIC you want to change the MAC address and click on properties.

c) Under "General" tab, click on the "Configure" button

d) Click on "Advanced" tab

e) Under "Property section", you should see an item called "Network Address" or "Locally Administered Address", click on it.

f) On the right side, under "Value", type in the New MAC address you want to assign to your NIC. Usually this value is entered without the "-" between the MAC address numbers.

g) Goto command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" or "net config rdr" to verify the changes. If the changes are not materialized, then use the second method.

h) If successful, reboot your system.

Method 2:This should work on all Windows 2000/XP systems

a) Go to Start -> Run, type "regedt32" to start registry editor. Do not use "Regedit".

b) Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}". Double click on it to expand the tree. The subkeys are 4-digit numbers, which represent particular network adapters. You should see it starts with 0000, then 0001, 0002, 0003 and so on.

c) Find the interface you want by searching for the proper "DriverDesc" key.d) Edit, or add, the string key "NetworkAddress" (has the data type "REG_SZ") to contain the new MAC address.e) Disable then re-enable the network interface that you changed (or reboot the system).

Method 3:Use the program Etherchange from http://ntsecurity.nu/toolbox/etherchange/

Windows 9x : Use the same method as Windows 2000/XP except for the registry key location is "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Net" and you must reboot your system.

The basic configuration of the autorun.inf states the program that is to be run when the CD or DVD is inserted in the drive and the icon that is to be displayed when the disk is viewed by Windows Explorer or other directory listing application. The text-only file, which resides in the root directory of the CD, should something look like this:

The icon file should also reside in the root directory of the CD.

Variations
Often the program you want to run will not be located in the root directory of the CD. If that is the case you must include the path in autorun.inf:

Sending customers, salespeople, investors, and employees presentations, PDF files, and HTML documents requires a slight variation to the basic autorun.inf file. One solution is the addition of a DOS batch file to the CD root directory. The autorun.inf file opens a batch file, which then opens the file using the default program designated for that file type. Here's a hidden program in Windows Xp, it is a very useful graphics tool for designing your own fonts, logos and icons.

To start the program go to Run in the Start Menu then type eudcedit and click OK.

It will then open the program, and you just select a hexadecimal code for your first character from the grid to start then click OK and you are now ready to begin designing. Using the set of drawing tools on the left you can do your own design. When you have finished you can save your character, either in a particular font, or all fonts. You can use your design in your documents or email for example.

WINDOWS VISTA SETUP

BOOT FROM DVD: To avoid repetitition, only the x86 is described here, and any differences between the x64 method are noted. Also, this method assumes users know how to set their DVD drive as the first boot device. Upon booting the Vista Beta 2 DVD, user will see:

1. A grey progress strip at bottom of screen with the text "Windows is loading files..."

2. A mostly blank splash screen with silver running progress bars, which will "blank" the screen momentarily, and the Aurora background with a dialog box titled "Install Windows" and three settings choices to make:

a) Installation Language

b) Time and Currency Format

c) Keyboard Language

3. After making the above selections, users have the choice to:

a) Install Now", which is the largest button and selection text

b) What to know before installing Windows (Includes a MS guide on installing Vista Beta 2)

c) System Recovery Options

4. After selecting "Install Now", users will be prompted to "Insert Product Key"; type carefully. 5. Users will then have to "Accept Licence Agreement" or not accept the agreement and exit the installation.

NOTE: At this point, users will see a green progress bar divided into 2 unequal sections; "Collecting Information"(1) and "Installing Windows"(2).

6. ONLY the Custom (Advanced) selection is available when booting from DVD, and the "Upgrade" will be greyed out and not selectable.

7. After selecting the "Custom" installation, users will be able to select the drive/partition to install Vista to (preformated recommended but the drive can be formated by going to the "Drive Options (Advanced)" tab. From this screen users will also be able to use the Load Driver function to load RAID and SATA controller drivers and to load system and other device drivers if they are on the "ROOT" of the usb flash drive/CD/DVD or other removable media.

8. The Windows Vista Beta 2 installation process now starts with a dialog box titled "Install Windows", which will proceed as follows:

a) Copying files

b) Expanding files (NO RESTART on Boot from DVD procedure)

c) Install Features and Updates then 1st restart NOTE: On installation restarts-DO NOT TOUCH ANY KEYS or otherwise interrupt the installation

d) After this restart, a grey DOS like screen appears and tells the user "Please wait while Windows prepares to start..." then will launch into "Completing Installation" and the final installation restart.

e) The final installation restart will boot to the first of several final setup screens where users will select their individual settings based on area, time, and their system specifics.

9. Final Setup Screens before the Windows Vista Beta 2 "Start":

a) Country or Region, and Keyboard Layout

b) Choose a Username and Picture (Password is optional)

c) Type a computername and choose a Desktop background

d) Help protect Windows automatically (Auto Update settings)

e) Review Time/Date settings; includes Time Zone, Date, Time

f) You're Ready to Start! button

10. On the first boot to the Vista Beta 2 desktop, a "New Display Detected" dialog box appears; users with a single monitor/display may safely Close(X) this dialog box.

Netstat is a command-line tool that displays a list of the active network connection the computer currently has, both incoming and outgoing. It is available on Unix, and Windows-based OS.

Go To Command prompt type netstat with following parameters:

-a : Displays all active TCP connections and the TCP and UDP ports on which the computer is listening.
-b : Displays the binary (executable) program's name involved in creating each connection or listening port.
-e : Displays extended statistics, such as the number of bytes and packets sent and received. This parameter can be combined with -s.
-n : Displays active TCP connections, however, addresses and port numbers are expressed numerically and no attempt is made to determine names.
-o : Displays active TCP connections and includes the process ID (PID) for each connection. You can find the application based on the PID on the Processes tab in Windows Task Manager. This parameter can be combined with -a, -n, and -p.
-p Protocol : Shows connections for the protocol specified by Protocol. In this case, the Protocol can be tcp, udp, tcpv6, or udpv6. If this parameter is used with -s to display statistics by protocol, Protocol can be tcp, udp, icmp, ip, tcpv6, udpv6, icmpv6, or ipv6.
-r : Displays the contents of the [[IP routing table]]. This is equivalent to the route print command.
-s : Displays statistics by protocol. By default, statistics are shown for the TCP, UDP, ICMP, and IP protocols. If the IPv6 protocol for Windows XP is installed, statistics are shown for the TCP over IPv6, UDP over IPv6, ICMPv6, and IPv6 protocols. The -p parameter can be used to specify a set of protocols.
-v : When used in conjunction with -b it will display the sequence of components involved in creating the connection or listening port for all executables.
Interval : Redisplays the selected information every Interval seconds. Press CTRL+C to stop the redisplay. If this parameter is omitted, netstat prints the selected information only once.

Guide To Bypass Bios Passwords

Before attempting to bypass the BIOS password on a computer, please take a minute to contact the hardware manufacturer support staff directly and ask for their recommended methods of bypassing the BIOS security. In the event the manufacturer cannot (or will not) help you, there are a number of methods that can be used to bypass or reset the BIOS password yourself. They include:

Using a manufacturers backdoor password to access the BIOS.

Use password cracking software.

Reset the CMOS using the jumpers or solder beads.

Removing the CMOS battery for at least 10 minutes.

Overloading the keyboard buffer.

Please remember that most BIOS passwords do not protect the hard drive, so if you need to recover the data, simply remove the hard drive and install it in an identical system, or configure it as a slave drive in an existing system. The exception to this are laptops, especially IBM Thinkpads, which silently lock the hard drive if the supervisor password is enabled. If the supervisor password is reset without resetting the and hard drive as well, you will be unable to access the data on the drive.

Backdoor passwords

Many BIOS manufacturers have provided backdoor passwords that can be used to access the BIOS setup in the event you have lost your password. These passwords are case sensitive, so you may wish to try a variety of combinations. Keep in mind that the key associated to “_” in the US keyboard corresponds to “?” in some European keyboards. Laptops typically have better BIOS security than desktop systems, and we are not aware of any backdoor passwords that will work with name brand laptops.

WARNING: Some BIOS configurations will lock you out of the system completely if you type in an incorrect password more than 3 times. Read your manufacturers documentation for the BIOS setting before you begin typing in passwords

Using the Motherboard

“Clear CMOS” Jumper or Dipswitch settingsMany motherboards feature a set of jumpers or dipswitches that will clear the CMOS and wipe all of the custom settings including BIOS passwords. The locations of these jumpers / dipswitches will vary depending on the motherboard manufacturer and ideally you should always refer to the motherboard or computer manufacturers documentation. If the documentation is unavailable, the jumpers/dipswitches can sometimes be found along the edge of the motherboard, next to the CMOS battery, or near the processor. Some manufacturers may label the jumper / dipswitch CLEAR - CLEAR CMOS - CLR - CLRPWD - PASSWD - PASSWORD - PWD. On laptop computers, the dipswitches are usually found under the keyboard or within a compartment at the bottom of the laptop.Please remember to unplug your PC and use a grounding strip before reaching into your PC and touching the motherboard. Once you locate and rest the jumper switches, turn the computer on and check if the password has been cleared. If it has, turn the computer off and return the jumpers or dipswitches to its original position.

Removing the CMOS Battery: The CMOS settings on most systems are buffered by a small battery that is attached to the motherboard. (It looks like a small watch battery). If you unplug the PC and remove the battery for 10-15 minutes, the CMOS may reset itself and the password should be blank. (Along with any other machine specific settings, so be sure you are familiar with manually reconfiguring the BIOS settings before you do this.) Some manufacturers backup the power to the CMOS chipset by using a capacitor, so if your first attempt fails, leave the battery out (with the system unplugged) for at least 24 hours. Some batteries are actually soldered onto the motherboard making this task more difficult. Unsoldering the battery incorrectly may damage your motherboard and other components, so please don’t attempt this if you are inexperienced. Another option may be to remove the CMOS chip from the motherboard for a period of time.Note: Removing the battery to reset the CMOS will not work for all PC’s, and almost all of the newer laptops store their BIOS passwords in a manner which does not require continuous power, so removing the CMOS battery may not work at all. IBM Thinkpad laptops lock the hard drive as well as the BIOS when the supervisor password is set. If you reset the BIOS password, but cannot reset the hard drive password, you may not be able to access the drive and it will remain locked, even if you place it in a new laptop. Mr Irwin known for his television show The Crocodile Hunter and his work with native Australian wildlife, was killed by a stingray 9/04/06 while filming a documentary at the Great Barrier Reef off Australia’s northeast coast. He was 44.

Irwin was killed almost instantly when the stingray stabbed him in the heart with its poisonous 20cm barb as he snorkelled off Port Douglas.Mr Irwin was married with two young children.

Loopback Adapter

Loopback is used for testing or debugging problems. Loopback simply means that data sent out will be delivered back to the source (usually without actually going across a network). Either protocol software or network hardware can provide loopback, depending on what one needs to test. For example, pinging address 127.0.0.1 causes the IP software to test loopback by handing the datagram back to ICMP on the same machine.
One advantage of loopback is that it allows one to configure protocol software and test device drivers even if the computer is not connected to a real network.

To manually install the Microsoft Loopback adapter in Windows XP, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.If you are in Classic view, click Switch to Category View under Control Panel in the left pane.
3.Double-click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Next.
4.Under See Also in the left pane, click Add Hardware,and then click Next.
5.Click Yes, I have already connected the hardware, and then click Next.
6.At the bottom of the list, click Add a new hardware device, and then click Next.
7.Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, and then click Next.
8.Click Network adapters, and then click Next.
9.In the Manufacturer box, click Microsoft.
10.In the Network Adapter box, click Microsoft Loopback Adapter, and then click Next.
11.Click Finish.

After the adapter is installed successfully, you can manually configure its options, as with any other adapter. If the TCP/IP properties are configured to use DHCP, the adapter will eventually use an autonet address (169.254.x.x/16) because the adapter is not actually connected to any physical media.Note By default, TCP/IP properties are configured to use DHCP.

SSH, Telnet and Rlogin are three ways of doing the same thing: logging in to a multi-user computer from another computer, over a network.
Multi-user operating systems, such as Unix and VMS, usually present a command-line interface to the user, much like the ‘Command Prompt’ or ‘MS-DOS Prompt’ in Windows. The system prints a prompt, and you type commands which the system will obey.
Using this type of interface, there is no need for you to be sitting at the same machine you are typing commands to. The commands, and responses, can be sent over a network, so you can sit at one computer and give commands to another one, or even to more than one.
SSH, Telnet and Rlogin are network protocols that allow you to do this. On the computer you sit at, you run a client, which makes a network connection to the other computer (the server). The network connection carries your keystrokes and commands from the client to the server, and carries the server's responses back to you.

Leading astronomers declared Thursday that Pluto is no longer a planet under historic new guidelines that downsize the solar system from nine planets to eight.

Much-maligned Pluto doesn't make the grade under the new rules for a planet: "a celestial body that is in orbit around the sun, has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a ... nearly round shape, and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit."

Instead, it will be reclassified in a new category of "dwarf planets," similar to what long have been termed "minor planets." The definition also lays out a third class of lesser objects that orbit the sun -- "small solar system bodies," a term that will apply to numerous asteroids, comets and other natural satellites.

Here’s how to do it step-by-step.

Set up your other email to forward to your desired Gmail account. Most web-based emails have this. If you are using a hosted solution (for your own domain, for instance), you can control mail forwarding with cPanel, Plesk, or whichever control panel your provider uses. If in doubt, ask your host’s customer service.
Set up Gmail to “send as” your alternative email address. Go to Settings–Accounts. Under “Send mail as,” click “Add another email address.” Enter your name and alternative email address here. You may also add a “reply to” address if you want your users to reply to a different email by default.
Click “Next step,” then “Verify.” Gmail will then send your alternative address the verification link and code.
Since you’ve already set up your alternative email to forward messages to Gmail, simply open up your Gmail inbox (in a new window, perhaps) to get the code. Click on the verification link, and your new “send from” address will be activated.

Windows File Protection

Windows XP has the ability to protect itself from system instability caused by 3rd party software overwriting important system files.

An important part of Windows File Protection is the command line utility:
System File Checker (sfc.exe)

The main reason for using this utility is when you suspect there may be a problem with a Windows XP system file.
Perhaps you get a dialog box appear informing you of a problem with a .dll file, or your program will just not load! It is therefore worth checking to see if there are any corrupt system files using scannow sfc.
To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in: sfc /scannow
This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

You might also be prompted to insert Windows Xp CD.

Meet the inventor of 'CtrlAltDelete'

David Bradley spent five minutes writing the computer code that has bailed out the world's PC users for decades.

The result was one of the most well-known key combinations around: CtrlAltDelete. It forces obstinate computers to restart when they will no longer follow other commands.
Bradley, 55 joined IBM in June 1975 as an engineer in Boca Raton, Florida. By 1980, he was one of 12 working to create the IBM PC.
The engineers had to design a simple way to restart the computer. Bradley wrote the code to make it work.
Colloquially, the combination is also known as a three-finger salute, Three Fingered Death Grip or, more esoterically, as a Vulcan nerve pinch
"I didn't know it was going to be a cultural icon," Bradley said. "I did a lot of other things than CtrlAltDelete, but I'm famous for that one."

Click Start–>Run–>type “gpedit.msc” without the “

Local Computer Policy–>Computer Configuration–>Administrative Templates–>Network–>QOS Packet Scheduler–>Limit Reservable Bandwidth

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the ‘Explain’ tab :
“By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default.”

You can overcome the limited options that Windows gives you for the placement of your desktop wallpaper (center or tile). With this setting you can move the image to an exact X,Y location on your desktop.

Click Start, Run, and type "regedit" then click on OK to start the regedit utility. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop Create two new STRING values of "Wallpaperoriginx" and "Wallpaperoriginy". If the values already exist then you simply modify them. Set the value of "Wallpaperoriginx" to equal the horizontal offset, and set the value of "Wallpaperoriginy" to equal the vertical offset. The offset is from the center of the desktop, so values can be positive and/or negative. Reboot your PC to see the changes.
